Bear Mountain Canada Cup XC 2017 Race Course

Position: Mountain Bike Coach

The Cycling Co. is seeking a qualified mountain bike coach to assist in facilitating kids, youth, and adult mountain bike programs over the spring and summer months at Bear Mountain Resort.

For these seasonal part-time and full-time mountain bike coach contract positions, the successful candidate will have PMBI or NCCP certification, a flexible schedule and a passion for riding and teaching mountain bike skills to clients of all ages.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Attendance and check-in procedures for all participants.
  • Be able to provide a waiver speech to participants before lesson/tour begins
  • Provide a fun, safe and engaging experience for clients
  • Lead kids camps and your team programs
  • Lead/assist with adult programs
  • Fix bikes on the trail when needed
  • Support head coach with logistics
  • Act as a role model for youth riders
  • Be adaptable
  • Be professional

Our “Must Haves”

  • Attend Staff Training
  • Valid First Aid Certification. (OFA Level 1 or Equivalent) – Provide a COPY with your resume.
  • Valid Instructor/Guide Certification. (PMBI L1 or Equivalent) – Please provide a copy of your certification with your resume.
  • Criminal record check required (provide copy prior to first shift)
  • Valid class 5 drivers license required.
  • Be able to comfortably ride blue and black trails.
  • Be at a reasonable level of fitness and be able to ride 2hrs+ at a time.
  • Own a current mountain bike in good working condition.
  • You are punctual, presentable, professional, personable and FUN!
  • You have trailside bike repair knowledge and can repair any of the following while out with clients: a flat tire (replace tube or apply patch), properly tighten bolts, fix a broken chain, adjust shifting, adjust brakes.

Nice to haves:

  • Knowledge of Southern Vancouver Island mountain bike trail networks including all or some of the following: Bear Mountain Resort, Hartland, Mt. Work, Gowlland Tod Park, Maple Mountain, Mt. Tzouhalem, Mt. Prevost. Bonus for Cumberland trails knowledge.
  • PMBI Level 2 Certification – Professional Mountain Bike Instructor Association.
  • Bike Mechanic Experience
  • Bike Mechanic Skills Instruction Experience

Position: Assistant Mountain Bike Coach

The successful applicant for this junior position will shadow the Head Coach and Lead Coach, evolving into a ride leader and eventually becoming capable of independently handling their own group.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Adam and Mariska Mountain BikingAccompany and assist coaches with day to day operations
  • Act as tail-gunner on group rides
  • Always maintain professional, positive attitude and act as role model and ambassador of the sport of cycling
  • Assist with kids’ and adult programs and tours
  • Fix bikes on the trail when needed
  • Be adaptable
  • Be professional

Must Haves:

  • Attend Staff Training
