Description
An evolution of the long standing Dirt Squad program, VIRT was created as a launch pad for riders to develop into world class athletes.
The VIRT Project will continue to evolve to stay ahead of the needs of its athletes.
VIRT RACING DEVELOPMENT
It is evident that many riders from our region aspire to achieve success at the next level. In order to increase those odds, we aim to provide new training and development opportunities to each group of athletes and meet them where they are at in their progression.
The VIRT program was born to provide something MORE for the developing athletes from Vancouver Island and nearby regions who have made gravity racing a priority.
A NEW LEVEL OF ATHLETE
Vancouver Island Race Training Athletes display a higher level of commitment to become the best athlete they can become.
- They communicate daily with their coach.
- They upload their workouts to Training Peaks – EVERY. SINGLE. DAY.
- They are engaged and ask questions.
- They love being athletes.
- They set goals and are prepared to do what it takes to reach these goals.
This is a very significant commitment of time and energy for both the athlete AND their support network.
VIRT is about becoming an athlete.
This is more than just following a training plan and being fast.
While a VIRT rider will train many hours per week, year round, it is more than that. These athletes are not only committed to following their training plan, but also developing good nutrition habits, learning about physiology, bike maintenance, sport psychology, rest and recovery, training technology, social media and sponsorship.
This takes a considerable amount of commitment and discipline and must only happen at the appropriate point in an athlete’s development.
